This immersive course is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to climb mountains safely and confidently.

During the course, you’ll learn a range of skills and techniques necessary for mountaineering. You’ll start with the basics of snow travel, including walking safely on snow, before progressing to technical climbs that require the use of technical gear. You’ll also learn about alpine hazard analysis and risk management strategies, as well as navigation and route-finding techniques.

One of the main focuses of the course is on climbing movement, where you’ll learn how to move on rock, ice, and snow using an ice axe and crampons. You’ll also gain experience with rock, snow and ice protection and anchor systems, and learn how to select and use proper equipment. Additionally, the course covers belaying techniques on rock, snow, and ice, as well as free climbing techniques on low and high angle rock, snow, and ice.

We will utilize rope and climbing equipment, route finding, as well as the application of all ice axe positions and self-arrest training. Proper clothing and equipment for the mountain environment, mountain weather, alpine ecology, and Leave No Trace ethics are also taught.

Trip Details

Five full days.

Included in our rates: The services of a professional rock climbing guide, any rock climbing equipment (helmet, harnesses, shoes, belay devices).

Not included in our rates: Park entrance fees, which are $10 per person daily for Eldorado Canyon State Park and $10 per person daily for Rocky Mountain National Park. Entrance fees are paid directly to the Parks upon entrance, gratuities for your guide are also not included (while the amount is at your discretion, the recommended gratuity is 20%).

What to Bring: Food and water for the day, personal climbing gear, mountaineering boots, approach shoes, mountain climbing clothing, sun protection.

Meeting Location: Meet at climbing location or at Trailhead

Prerequisites: Good fitness, basic hiking & backpacking in the mountai,s, this is an intro course.
