AIARE Avalanche Level 1 Course

Build the foundation for informed decision-making in avalanche terrain. AIARE Level 1 introduces essential skills for recognizing avalanche hazards, evaluating terrain, planning routes, making decisions as a team, and responding when conditions or circumstances change. The course combines 4–5 hours of self-paced learning, Zoom sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6–9:30 pm, and two hands-on field days Saturday and Sunday from 7 am–4 pm. Skiers, splitboarders, and snowshoers are welcome.

AIARE Avalanche Rescue Course

Practice the skills you hope you never need. AIARE Avalanche Rescue is a one-day, hands-on course focused on companion rescue skills, equipment, and effective response during an avalanche emergency. First-time participants build a strong foundation in companion rescue, while returning students can refine their skills through advanced techniques and realistic scenarios. Because rescue skills require practice, this course is designed to be retaken regularly as techniques, equipment, and best practices evolve. Course time: 7 am–3 pm.

AIARE Level 2 Avalanche Course

Take your avalanche education and decision-making skills further. AIARE Level 2 builds on the risk-management framework introduced in AIARE 1, with greater emphasis on evaluating weather, snowpack, avalanche processes, and other critical factors that influence backcountry travel. Students learn to gather and interpret observations, communicate effectively with their team, and apply that information to more complex decisions in avalanche terrain. The goal is not to eliminate risk, but to develop the knowledge and leadership skills to recognize, assess, and manage it more effectively.
