It’s also essential to learn basic navigation, including how to use a compass, read a topography map and figure out how to find the best path out without the reliance of technology. Before you come on this course, to get the most tasks done as possible it would be best if you did some research on basic survival techniques and lessons. This way we can get straight into the nitty-gritty. In this course we’ll learn from guides who have multitudes of combined experience in some of the world’s harshest conditions. No matter if you’re planning a multi-day expedition or a one-day hike, Colorado Wilderness Rides and Guides will teach you teach you the most essential skills to maximize your success in difficult situations.
We’ll learn how to build a rudimentary shelter, how to build a fire, and how to use unconventional water sources. We’ll also learn basic first aid (Colorado Wilderness Rides and Guides also teaches Wilderness First Aid certification) and how to keep your team members in the event of an emergency. We’ll cover the basics of all the first aid kit contents you might need to know about and if you’d like to brush up a bit beforehand. We’ll cover effective expedition management and how to maintain communication out in the wild. We’ll prepare to know how to get in reach with local authorities and how to use natural landscape to aid you. From backpacking to climbing, whitewater rafting, or ski touring, we’ll learn how to survive in each particular environment. We’ll learn how to stay safe in extreme heat or extreme cold and how to stay comfortable in either environment. Our guides come from a variety of backgrounds, including military and mountain search & rescue, and have intimate knowledge of how to stay safe while in the backcountry.

2 days (Wilderness Survival 102),
3 to 10 days Wilderness Survival Custom education and expeditions.
All programs are custom and private and based on your learning desires / requests.

Course Details
Full Day Rate: $220 per participant
We guarantee departure regardless of your group size, but there are different prices. $220 pp for 4 people or more; $265 pp for 3 people; $305 for 2 people; $120 for 1 person.
Itinerary: Wilderness Survival training explores Colorado’s natural scenery, using the rugged environment to empower students to use intuition, confidence, ability, and awareness to keep themselves safe and comfortable. In our classroom or outdoors sessions, we discuss navigation, food, water, layering clothes, staying dry, and basic medical and self-care skills. Later, we learn efficient communication, signaling for help and how to help an injured partner. By the end of this course, you’ll have a greater understanding of basic survival tactics allowing you more confidence in backcountry settings.
Included: Transportation between hotel/ central meeting location and trailhead or meeting at Trailhead (if needed), breakfast and lunch; snacks and water for all activities, park entrance fees, permits, Local natural history education, logistical help for all local reservations, professional guide.
Not included: Guide gratuities (recommended 20%);
